A few weeks ago, red and white signs popped up along Rt. 30 in Berlin. They pulled me onward like a trail of breadcrumbs and led me to a small shopping center housing the modest A&H African and Jamaican Restaurant (577 Blackwood Clementon Rd.). Inside there’s a few tables clothed in red and topped with glass, a TV (it was streaming 6 ABC on my visit), and two hanging flags – I’m sure you can guess their colors. A&H opened last December but, according to the counterwoman/cook, she recently decided to expand her temptation tactics beyond the woods of Lindenwold.
If you don’t know what to order because A) you can’t make up your mind or B) you’re unfamiliar with the cuisine, just ask the gorgeous Ghanaian counterwoman/cook. She’ll set you straight and lay on some of that thick accent, too. With a sample, she sold me on some curried goat then hooked me up with a HEAPING MEDIUM container of coconut-scented rice, goat, cabbage and a fried plantain. Had to grab a beef patty, too – it was staring at me! All that, a soda and a smile for $15? Yes, please. Oh, and slap on some of those recommended condiments pictured above. Scotch bonnet if you’re nasty.
